Daniel Ramos is a waterfront structural engineer who has been responsible for all phases of analysis and design from concept development to the delivery of detailed construction documents. With 13 years of professional experience, his past designs encompass a broad range of marine structures including piers, wharves, ferry terminals, marinas, marine oil terminals, flood barrier structures,
diversion structures, bulkheads and dolphin structures.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

Antigua Cruise Port, Antigua & Barbuda – Project Technical Specialist.

BA was responsible for oversight and design review for a new cruise berth in St. John, Antigua. Design included the installation of a new anchored combi-wall bulkhead system, dolphins, catwalk, and a pile supported timber pier. Tasks included coordination with the client and design consultants regarding the progress of the design and construction. Review of calculations, construction drawings, specifications, and methods of design. Particular attention was placed on the uplift capacity of piles where rock sockets were required.

Manhattan Cruise Terminal Piers 88, 90, and 94 Structural Integrity Assessment, New York, New York - QA/QC Manager.

Mr. Ramos provided direction, guidance and quality control for the inspection, geotechnical and structural analysis for three existing and active piers. Inspection work included routine level underwater inspection of structural elements of substructure (pier) and superstructure (terminal buildings). Non-destructive testing of foundation elements was performed to measure the driving length of the exiting piles to evaluate the geotechnical capacity of the piles. Mr. Ramos’ responsibilities included reviewing the strategy and results from the team’s progress and coordinating with the Project Manager for next steps and assurance of quality of work product.

PortMiami Terminal V, Miami, Florida - Project Manager.

The facility serves as the homeport for Virgin Cruises. BA led a team of engineers in the design of a new anchored bulkhead, mooring dolphin, catwalks, and mooring bollard foundations. Part of the scope included identifying and designing the appropriate fender and mooring bollards for a new class of cruise vessel. The new bulkhead structure is 64ft offshore of the existing berth and required close coordination in the field due to existing structural conflicts. Included as part of the marine engineering for the project is the design of two new dolphin structures, a series of independent mooring foundation structures, and the apron which supports the operational activities for the cruise ships.
