The San Diego Unified Port District retained Bermello Ajamil & Partners, Inc. BA, along with a team of experts, to prepare a cruise market and economic impact assessment, and to subsequently provide guidance in the design of future facilities and operations that met market opportunities and challenges.
A program that initially comprised the design of a temporary terminal facility to be built atop one of the oldest existing Navy Piers in San Diego eventually evolved into a permanent 2-story, 52,250-sq.ft. steel-framed structure that included vital structural improvements and seismic retrofitting of its pier in order to meet existing requirements. In addition to the structural improvements, new mooring hardware and a new fendering system were also provided
Luis Ajamil and Willy Bermello forged a visionary plan to lead BA into a prominent global, interdisciplinary firm providing Architecture, Engineering, Planning, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, and Construction Services. BA focused on several key markets with Maritime being one of the core components of the firm.
